Barn Owl (Tyto alba)
The Barn Owl is a medium-sized owl with a distinctive white, heart-shaped face. They are native to southeastern Asia and Australasia and have been recorded in New Zealand since the 1940s. The first confirmed breeding pair was found in Northland in 2008.
Barn Owls primarily hunt small mammals, birds, and insects. They are often found in open woodland, grasslands, and farmland.
