Socca pustulosa
The Garden Orb-Weaver Spider, scientifically known as Socca pustulosa, is a medium-sized orb-weaving spider found in New Zealand and Australia. This spider is known for its ability to blend into its surroundings, with coloration that varies from greys, blacks, whites, browns, and oranges, often mottled. This camouflage helps it avoid predators and ambush prey.
Socca pustulosa is typically found all year round, in gardens, & forests edges, and scrub areas. It constructs large, vertical orb webs to catch flying insects. At night, the spider sits in the center of the web, waiting for prey to become ensnared. Once an insect is trapped, the spider wraps it in silk to immobilize it before feeding.
