Spiders of New Zealand

New Zealand, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and unique wildlife, is also home to a remarkable diversity of spiders. Many spider families are endemic to New Zealand, found nowhere else on Earth, making this country a true haven for arachnid enthusiasts and experts alike. Over 90% of New Zealand’s spider species are endemic to New Zealand.

Through these galleries, I hope to showcase the incredible diversity, vibrant colours, and intricate patterns of some of New Zealand’s unique spiders. I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for our unique spider biodiversity and raise awareness about the importance of protecting these amazing spiders, including the iconic and legally protected Katipō and the elusive and threatened Nelson Cave Spider.
