Colaranea viriditas | Green Orb Web Spider

Colaranea viriditas is characterized by its vibrant green abdomen, often bordered by a thin white margin that highlights its shape. A reddish-brown coloration can be seen along the sides of the abdomen, adding to its distinctiveness. While the typical coloration is green, some individuals, especially in alpine zones, can display more yellow or brown tones. This species is found throughout New Zealand, particularly in forests and forest-edge habitats, often spotted in lower bushes and vegetation such as ferns, native sedges, and grasses. It is most commonly observed during the summer months but can be seen year-round.
